After calling the day before our booking to change the pick up time and confirm , we took a taxi to downtown Avis from the airport as airport Avis was sold out. Upon arrival, Avis was closed and we were left without a rental car to get to our hotel 2 hours away. We took a taxi half way to the hotel before the airport Avis location called back saying they now had a mini van available, even though we had booked an SUV. This cost us about $400 more than anticipated ($100 taxi and can was $300 more for the week than SUV) and 4 hour of our time. It was a horrible experience on my birthday and to start our honeymoon and we will never use Avis ever again. Driving car rentals in Sydney during winter can be challenging.
