A small, family-run winery named for the pimpernel flowers that grow among the vines. The grapes are dry-grown and hand-picked, and the family bottle and label every wine themselves. This is one of the most intimate – and unhurried – tastings you can have in the Yarra Valley. This stalwart winery has some of the oldest vines on the Mornington Peninsula, and some of the most impressive dining. Although the restaurant was originally built to help showcase the maturing range of wines, it's since grown an esteemed reputation of its own. Kirks is not as aesthetically pleasing as some other wine bars, but its intriguing mix of old and new makes it hard to resist. Once the location of a gangster's "gentleman's" club, widely known as a gambling den, Neighbourhood is now a 1980s-themed restaurant and bar with a wine list that tends towards minimal interventionism. Bar Liberty offers a global menu and a selection of domestic and international wines that were all produced in a sustainable manner with minimal human intervention. Arlechin is indeed a cork-lined ode to wine, run by the Piu family of Grossi Felipe fame, and features a wine list with more than 100 bottles. Bar Liberty features an international menu, with both domestic and international wines on the list, all of which are sustainably produced with minimal human involvement. Zackary Furst, who was Ben Shewry's assistant for two years at Attica, now handles the food deliveries.

This relationship is immediately apparent in its wine retailers – if not for the winemakers who regularly drop in to host tastings, then for the way South Australian labels dominate the shelves. That said, the city’s general passion for wine means that stalwarts such as East End, Melbourne Street and The Ed can also carry large ranges of top-end wines from France, Italy and beyond.
