A series of resources have been developed aimed at employers to gain greater skills, knowledge and understanding of neurodivergence and how to support neurotypical employees more effectively. These materials aim to provide neurodivergent students with information, tools, and strategies to navigate their educational journey confidently and successfully. We understand that your journey through university may have unique challenges, and we are here to provide the support and resources you need to thrive. We provide opportunities, in-person and virtual, that are designed to help you cope with the stresses, barriers, and challenges that society presents as we raise our neurodivergent children. Children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities can receive additional support for their education, health, and social needs until the age of 25. Special Educational Needs (SEN) support can be provided by school or college, however, an Educational Health & Care (EHC) plan can be put in place for more complex needs.
To ensure that the experiences were as up to date as possible, we focused on individuals who had received neurodivergent assessments and diagnosis within the previous year. Working with the Welsh Government’s neurodivergence and learning disabilities team, we explored how to support those awaiting a neurodivergence referral or assessment. Our approach to writing about neurodiversity is not to state what terminology or language is right or wrong, but to raise awareness and understanding. It is important to respect personal preference when referring to individuals or groups and we always ask how they would prefer to be described. A collaborative research team involving Swansea University has just released guidance aimed at supporting new teachers to embed children’s participative... The assessment usually involves comprehensive WAIS IV or WISK V assessments together with developmental history interview. The cognitive assessment is always completed by a psychologist and takes between 3-4 hours. Relevant psychometrics Occupational Health Solutions completed by yourself, parents and teachers (children) or self-report (adults).

Our National Autism Team has been re-launched as the National Neurodivergence Team. We are evaluating the impact of the Statutory Code of Practice, with the first outcome report published in 2024. Where it is felt to be beneficial for you, the PSW team can arrange a confidential neurodiversity screening with our external assessor. They will be a main point of contact for you and will work closely with you to address any concerns or difficulties you may face and help you make a successful transition to university life. In the UK, about 3-4% of the population are thought to have ADHD and at least 1% are thought to be on the autism spectrum. Roughly one in 10 have dyslexia,1 but the truth of the matter is these figures are likely to under-represent the true numbers; it is to be expected that these will rise with increasing awareness and access to assessments.

With over 27,000 people living with autism in Wales, we recognised the need to supply face-to-face appointments at more locations. Waiting months for an autism or ADHD diagnosis can be stressful and opening our Cardiff clinic means private assessments are now more readily available in South Wales. The Equality Act 2010 provides a broad, informative definition of a ‘disability’ that can help you to determine if you may qualify for support. Each funding option will have differing eligibility criteria and its own application process.
Many neurodivergent individuals have cooccurring differences meaning not just one. It includes clinical interviews, questionnaires, and structured observations to evaluate mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and gender dysphoria. If your child seems unusually quiet, withdrawn, or struggles to find enjoyment in activities they once loved, this may point to depression. Our psychiatric assessments look at mood, sleep, motivation, and energy levels, helping to identify whether your child is experiencing depression and what level of support may be needed. Recommendations may relate to home life, education, work, nervous system support, and relational needs, depending on the individual.
