What a Kindergarten Day Looks Like

Service providers may only claim funding for each enrolled, eligible child. At C&K Oakleigh Community Kindergarten, your child will feel safe, make friends and belong. We have an open natural learning environment where the children explore, investigate, and extend their learning. This is what most people picture when they hear “kinder” — a dedicated kinder building where children attend for a set number of hours, usually 15 hours per week for 4-year-olds, across a few sessions. There is no care before or after the session, and it is not typically available for babies or toddlers.
Our centre has been designed affordable childcare oakleigh to serve the Oakleigh South community with high-quality childcare and early education services, all aimed at supporting children on their learning journeys. A sessional kindergarten program is a structured early childhood education program  that typically operates for a set number of hours each week (generally 15 hours spread over several days). During play children feel supported and at ease, so we use this opportunity to develop a love of learning that will continue to grow with them. See how St Anthony's teacher Paul uses play to challenge children and develop their self-confidence. Children have a strong voice in the creation of our kindergarten programs, as we create learning experiences based on their strengths, abilities and interests.

Our Pathways to School curriculum embeds the foundation for school learning programs, which develops the skills and knowledge for school and life. This commitment to excellence is why many families consider us the best childcare centre in Heritage Park. We strive to build strong relationships with every family, ensuring you feel involved in your child’s journey. Whether you are looking for the leading childcare centre in Raceview or a nurturing environment elsewhere, Children’s Choice is dedicated to giving your child the best possible start in life.
The kinder program happens within the centre’s normal hours — so instead of dropping your child at one place for kinder and another for care, it all happens in the same building, with the same educators your child already knows. Long Day Care services, on the other hand, offer full-day care and education for children from infancy through to school age. Children already enrolled in care can seamlessly continue into the Kindergarten program within a familiar environment. For newcomers, it provides time to gently settle into new routines and relationships. We join with families and community to nurture children’s learning and development in their formative years.
Check what state-funded preschool options are available in your area, then compare the total cost (including any additional care needed) against a long day care centre with CCS applied. The right answer depends on your work hours, your budget, and what's available locally. Most states offer funded preschool for children turning 4 in the year before school.

The Free Kinder calculator and the Offset Free Kinder Factsheet are available to support services to determine the correct amount to offset from fees. Free Kinder funding rates are available on the kindergarten funding rates page. If a child is enrolled at more than one service and funding is paid to a service where the family does not wish to claim their funded place, the department will recoup the funding. Approved providers are legally bound to provide forecast and acquittal claims for each service provider, including those service providers submitting a 'nil claim'.
Approved children's education and care services across Australia are assessed and rated by their state and territory regulatory authority. The NQS is part of the National Regulations and includes seven quality areas that are important to children's learning and developmental outcomes. At Imagine, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. Our centres are designed with secure access systems, monitored entry points, and comprehensive CCTV coverage throughout key areas to help maintain a safe and protected environment. Combined with vigilant educators, robust policies, and regular safety procedures, these measures provide families with peace of mind, knowing their children are cared for in a secure and nurturing setting.

This service works well for parents with school age children, who need care outside of school hours. Centre-based care, or long day care is perfect for those who work long days and need care for their children during business hours. It operates for at least 8 hours a day, typically Monday to Friday in an early childhood education centre and caters for children, from birth to school age.
One of the most persistent misconceptions is that kindergarten and preschool programs delivered in childcare are less valuable than those in sessional or community centres. State-funded preschool programs that are already subsidised by the government typically don't attract CCS. A nominated supervisor provides day-to-day management of an approved service while working collaboratively with the regulatory authority. They ensure that the program delivered to children is based on an approved learning framework and also ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of children at the service. It’s important that you continue to enrol eligible children in Early Start Kindergarten (ESK) at your service. This helps service providers receive their full funding entitlement and ensures these children have access to 15 funded hours of kindergarten across Victoria.
